Frequently Asked Questions about the 2012 By-laws Amendment Regarding Membership
Q: Does the 2012 by-laws amendment affect me?
A: Most members will see no change with the 2012 by-laws amendment. From this point on, there is only one type of membership. Those Memberships who have been members for 20 years or more will receive a Long Term Member Discount. Those Memberships with one or both adults 62 years old or older will receive a Senior Discount. Those Memberships eligible for both discounts will receive the Senior Discount, which will be the greater of the two.
If you have an Individual or Senior Couple Membership, you will see no change. You will not be eligible for an additional Long Term Member Discount or Senior Discount. The Individual and Senior Couple Memberships are old categories, and no Membership may be changed to or begun as an Individual or Senior Couple Membership. However there are Long Term Member Discounts or Senior Discounts on the regular Membership, if applicable.
Q: I am 62 years old or older—how do I get a Senior Discount?
A: If at least one adult in a Membership is 62 years of age or older by January 1, 2013, then that Membership will be eligible for a Senior Discount for the 2013 season. Note that if a membership qualifies for the Senior Discount and the Long Term Member Discount, only the Senior Discount will be applied. To get a Senior Discount for the 2013 season, those eligible persons must send in a copy of a government-issued ID (e.g. driver’s license, passport) to: Venetian Pools Community Association, P. O. Box 3151, Decatur, GA 30030 postmarked by this Saturday, December 1, 2012.
If you have a grandfathered Individual Membership or a Senior Couple Membership, you will not receive an additional Senior Discount and do not need to send in a government-issued ID.
Q: I have been a Venetian member for 20 years or more—how do I get a Long Term Member Discount?
A: If you have had a Venetian Membership for 20 years or more, you do not have to do anything in order to receive the Long Term Member Discount. Some members may have been Annual Members before becoming Members. Please notify Patricia Blumberg, VPCAMembership@comcast.net , if you feel that the start date of your Annual Membership qualifies you for the 20-year membership discount. The deadline for this is December 1, 2012.
If you are eligible for both the Long Term Member Discount and the Senior Discount, then you will receive the Senior Discount, which is the greater of the two.
If you have a grandfathered Individual Membership or a Senior Couple Membership, you will not receive an additional Long Term Member Discount.
Q: How much is the Senior Discount and the Long Term Member Discount?
A: The amount of the Senior Discount and the Long Term Member Discount are determined each year. The Ways and Means Committee makes a recommendation to the Venetian Board. The Board then votes on the discounts before the dues invoices are sent.
