Spring Workday Update
Thank you to everyone who signed up to volunteer on Saturday! We’ve had some cancellations. Two volunteer slots and one captain slot are available from 2-4 pm. Click here to sign up.
If you are not signed up, please do not come on Saturday. Plan to join us next year! We want to have enough tasks, as well as food and drink, for everyone. We know members like to help and earn guest passes, but we just can’t accommodate everyone.
If you are coming, we could use a couple more wheelbarrows and a heavy-duty hand truck. We are all set on pressure washers; thanks to everyone who reached out.

Spring Workday This Weekend!
Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the Member Workday this coming Saturday, April 18. Your volunteer hours are vital for preparing for opening day and for making the facilities and grounds beautiful for members and guests. There are still some openings to sign up for volunteering in the 2pm-4pm shift (5 guest passes/person) and openings for captain in all the shifts (10 guest passes/person)—scroll down the webpage to see them.
If your plans change and you are unable to volunteer next Saturday, please remove yourself from the signup so that another member can take your place and earn guest passes.
Please bring tools if you can, and label everything with your name. We especially need wheelbarrows, pruning and cutting tools (clippers, loppers, and pruning saws), yard and lawn rakes, battery powered leaf blowers (we have Ryobi chargers), and work gloves.
Do you have a pressure washer we could use for the day? Please email Leslie Joiner if you do. If you can’t volunteer on Saturday, we can meet you at the pool this week for drop off. You will receive guest passes!
A light breakfast, lunch, and beverages will be provided. The weather will be very warm, so please plan to dress accordingly, apply sunscreen, and stay hydrated. Let’s get ready for a great season at Venetian!
Tuesday’s Board Agenda
The Venetian Pools Community Association Board will meet this Tuesday, 4/14/2026, at 7 pm in the Dance Hall at the Venetian Pools.
We value hearing from our members and want to ensure every voice has the opportunity to be heard. To help us make the most of this time together, we ask that members wishing to speak during the Member Comments period please sign in on the Member Comments Sign-In Sheet upon arrival. Each speaker will be given two minutes to share their thoughts, feedback, or questions with the Board. This format allows us to honor everyone’s time and ensure all members who wish to speak have the chance to do so. The Board looks forward to listening
Proposed agenda:
Swim Lessons and Coaching Updates on the Venetian Website
Looking to increase your swimming speed? Or maybe you just want to feel more at ease in the water? Check out the updates on the All About Lap Swimming tab on the Venetian Pools website. These are for all ages and all abilities. We have added to the list of year-round offerings. And the Venetian Poolshark coaches will be available the whole summer for all Venetian members. Many thanks to Heidi Kind O’Shea for helping to add to this resource!
eSplash Delivery
The eSplash is the primary method for sending out information, announcements, and schedules to the Venetian membership. The email address used to sign up for the waitlist is automatically subscribed to the eSplash when you become a member. Feel free to use the subscribe and unsubscribe links at the bottom of these emails to have them sent to your desired email addresses and not sent to those you don’t check. There is no limit to the number of email addresses subscribed per membership.

2025 40-Mile Swim Challenge Tops 4,000 Miles—Ready for 2026
From Maya Hahn: Finally, our Waiting-For-Venetian Season is almost over and we’ll be gathering in less than a month for our 2026 swim season. And, our 12th annual 40-Mile Swim Challenge will ensue.
For those of you who are new members and those who may be unaware, we challenge you to swim 40 miles between May 1 and September 30. Those who swim 30 miles by the end of August and complete their 40 miles during September will get a prize at the end of the season. In the past we’ve had prizes of tee shirts, water bottles, beach towels, swim bags, hoodies, umbrellas and more. There is never a cost for swimmers to join or get a prize. Nor is there an age limit; any member may join. This year our incentive is an extra large, lush swimming-pool blue beach towel with our logo on it.
As you accrue miles over the summer, you will check them off in our big blue 40-Mile notebook which is kept at the front desk. If you achieved 40 miles last year, you will find a sheet with your name on it already in the book, listed alphabetically. If not, and you want to join this year, you will find plenty of blank sheets in the book. Just fill out a form and you’re in. This is not a competition except against yourself and nobody will judge you if you sign up and don’t complete 40 miles.
Last summer, 91 members signed up and 63 people met the challenge, accruing a total of 3710 miles, with an additional 296 miles achieved by swimmers who didn’t finish 40, making a total of 4005 miles, the distance from Decatur to Central Russia or Northern Scandinavia. Leading the field was James Coblin who swam a whopping 161 miles! Here are the other members who met the 40-Mile Swim Challenge:

Poolshark State Stars!
And if your kids are on the fence about swim team, check this out. This month we had 7 Poolsharks represent their high schools and compete at the 2026 GHSA State Meet Championships.
Each of these swimmers began their swim careers in summer league, the grassroots of the sport. We love watching these athletes grow and shine, from learning to swim as Starfishes all the way up to competing at the highest possible level for high school.
The Poolsharks had 2 State Champions: Greta Myers and Isaiah Lewis. Both Greta & Isaiah also earned All American status with swim times that qualify as the top 100 in the entire USA.
Poolshark State Stars:
Paideia 1A (3A Meet)
Ben McCarthy – 200 medley relay (11th), 200 free relay (14th)

Pool Heater Update
A little over two years ago, there was a non-binding membership survey about heating the pool. 256 memberships (less than half) responded with more in favor than opposed. Then the estimates for installation and operation came in. Yikes! Both were very expensive. So the pool heater has been added to the list of other capital improvements for the Master Plan Committee to consider. (More on the Master Plan Committee in the next few months.) In the meantime, I hear wetsuits (full, shorty, shirts) can make swimming more comfortable in cool pool water.
